Appalachian Energy is located in Fletcher, NC in the Fletcher Business Park facility that is undergoing a progressive revitalization from being a recently unused but once vibrant manufacturing center in Western North Carolina.
History
Our building was formerly a production plant for the global furniture company, Steelcase. At one time, the Steelcase plant was the largest employer in Henderson County. When the company was forced to close their plant in the city of Fletcher due to global competition, the building laid empty for 2.5 years; a painful reminder to the community of the exodus of traditional manufacturing from WNC.
Vision
In 2006, Appalachian Energy, along with Pulliam Properties, purchased the Steelcase facility in what is collectively known as the Fletcher Business Park. It now serves as Appalachian Energy's corporate headquarters. The building has approximately 900,000 sq.ft. on over 100 acres.
By the efforts of Appalachian Energy and our partners, the building is being transformed from a symbol of a diminishing kind of business, to a symbol of renewed economic development and environmentally sustainable business. It will be the world's largest solar heated and cooled facility once the Appalachian Energy System installation is complete in 2008. It will be a source of new jobs and serve as a model for America’s energy independent, and globally competitive communities.
Appalachian Energy and its partners have joined efforts to create a facility that embraces renewable energy, creates local businesses, and is a stimulus for new high-skill jobs. Leased space is available for companies interested in being a part of this new progressive model for economic development in WNC.
