Hydro:
Appalachian Energy purchased the Ivy River hydroelectric dam in 2003. Located outside the city limits of Marshall, NC, the original dam was constructed in the early 1900s. Appalachian Energy has re-powered the facility, re-engineered the turbines, upgraded the controls ,and increased the efficiency of the facility over 30%.
There are more than 3000 existing dams in North Carolina representing more than 200 Megawatts of potential renewable energy. Enough to provide electricity to 1.5 million homes in North Carolina alone.

Solar:
Appalachian Energy is a leading developer of solar thermal and photovoltaic systems. In addition to selling versions of these systems to retail market, Appalachian Energy identifies and develops solar power generation facilities that provide power to the wholesale electricity market.
