RESCO™ is a great way to go solar with no capital cost
-
Save on energy costs from Day 1.
-
Achieve deep reductions in your real carbon footprint.
-
For solar hot water systems, especially for Restaurants, Hotels and other big users of hot water.
-
For solar heating, cooling and dehumidification systems in medium to large buildings such as offices, stores, schools, warehouses and industry.
What is RESCO™?
Appalachian Energy’s RESCO™ Division (Renewable Energy Service Company) allows organizations to acquire cost-saving solar energy systems with no up-front investment. RESCO™ designs and installs the best solar system for your needs, and continues to own and maintain the system. You have no maintenance costs or worries, and lock in your price for hot water, heating or cooling for a fixed term of up to 20 years.
The RESCO™ process
Appalachian Energy will perform an energy assessment of your facility, to determine the potential to save energy. As the client, you decide which of our recommended energy saving changes or equipment upgrades you want to make. Once we have determined what your hot water, heating or cooling, or special dehumidification requirements will be, we design a solar system that is the right size for your needs. For new construction, we will work with architects and specifying engineers to integrate our solar systems with your building.
A signed contract setting out the fee you will pay for the hot water, chilled water or dehumidification services we supply is all it takes to make a major reduction in your carbon footprint while cutting your monthly costs or hedging against future utility cost increases.
You have no ongoing maintenance worries with your solar system. Maintenance is included in the monthly fee and is handled by our local dealers. Appalachian Energy will monitor the system from our headquarters. Any system alerts can be responded to immediately.
You can check the status of your system via a dedicated webpage, which displays information on solar energy production and cumulative environmental benefits of the system.

Energy Assessments
Average System reduces hot
water expenses by 65% or
more
Appalachian Energy is committed to enabling our clients to use energy resources more efficiently and so reduce their environmental impact. The RESCO™ process begins with a full energy assessment of the following:
- Building occupancy and usage patterns
- Building structure
- Heating and cooling system
- Hot
Water Consumption (using an ultrasonic Peak Flow meter)
- Lighting
- Building controls and operation
Your energy assessment report will suggest cost-effective energy efficiency improvements, such as building controls, lighting upgrades, boiler operations and feedwater conditioning, and many others. We can directly implement the energy-saving measures that you request and we offer ongoing operational support for utility cost analysis and energy management. Or you can elect to pursue these improvements through other service providers. Our goal is to empower you to drive down your energy consumption, to allow us to design a smaller, more efficient, solar heating or cooling system.
Hot Water Consumption Analysis
Analysis Fee
$300 (1-5 locations)
$250 (5+ locations)
When sizing a hot water system we need accurate data on your hot water use. Our energy assessment of your facility will include temporary, non-invasive installation of an ultrasonic
digital peak flow meter. Over a week, typically, we record your use of hot
water, in gallons per minute, every five minutes. Our hot water
consumption analysis will detail the following:
- Current fuel source (Gas/Electric)
- Current cost of energy ($ per kwh, $ per Therm)
- Equipment efficiency
- Hot water usage pattern
- Hot water consumption (reading taken every 5 mins)
- Average cost of hot water daily/weekly/monthly
An Analysis Fee covers the cost of placing and then retrieving the
ultrasonic peak flow meter. This fee is rebated on the price of a
system when you enter into a RESCO contract.
RESCO™ for new construction
In new construction, cost overruns are common. The RESCO™ program allows you to remove a large part of the building systems from your construction budget. For buildings aiming for LEED certification, Appalachian Energy's solar heating and cooling systems can comfortably exceed the requirements for the maximum of 3 LEED points for renewable energy. A fourth LEED point will likely be attainable due to the innovative aspects of solar cooling.
Some of the capital expense saved by using our RESCO program can be re-budgeted for other LEED-qualifying construction techniques, such as recycled flooring materials. With the correct approach, RESCO™ can move a LEED new construction project up by a full class, e.g. from LEED Silver to LEED Gold, while at the same time reducing the overall construction budget.
